NPC Problem

When I'm just waiting for a person to come to my line and then a NPC appears, I can't give them a room. I type in the name "Pirate" or "Karen" and it doesn't show them on the check in system. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not. I also sometimes after a few uses of the computer, I can't actually type into the check in system anymore.
